How it works
You’re covered with automatic basic or comprehensive Travel Insurance depending on the card you used to buy the tickets.
All qualifying Standard Bank Credit Cards come with automatic Basic Travel Insurance, except World Elite.
Individuals who use their qualifying Standard Bank Credit Cards to purchase return airline tickets will be insured. This cover is provided by Bryte Insurance, and it includes::
- Emergency medical cover (limited)
- 24/7 worldwide assistance
- Baggage and travel delay* (card dependant)
Standard Bank World Citizen, World Elite & World Elite Metal cards come with Comprehensive Travel Insurance.
Your card type determines who can be covered under the booking. See “Members insured for Comprehensive Travel Insurance” below for a detailed breakdown.
This cover is provided by AIG Insurance, and it includes:
- Medical emergency cover (wide range of cover)
- 24/7 assistance
- Trip cancellation or interruption
- Loss, theft or damage to baggage & personal items
- Travel or baggage delay
Members insured for Comprehensive Travel Insurance:
- Children means the Insured Person’s dependent children who are not in full-time employment and who are between the ages of 3 months up to and including the age of 18 years (or under the age of 25 years provided they are in full-time education), unmarried, not pregnant, without children and primarily dependent on the Cardholder for maintenance and support.
- Spouse means the husband, wife, partner in a same sex partnership or any de facto partner with whom the Cardholder has permanently and continuously lived in the same household in a relationship which is not casual or impermanent for a period longer than 6 consecutive months. Only one Spouse shall be eligible for cover.
- Cardholder's parents means the lawful and biological father or mother of the eligible Cardholder aged under eighty (80) years of age. Parents must be visiting the eligible Cardholder in his/her country of permanent residence or the country where the card was issued.

Our emergency medical services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s important that you contact us as soon as possible when you need assistance.
How to make a reverse call for emergency medical and related claims:
- Dial the international operator for the country you are in. We recommend researching the international dialling code for the country you are intending to visit.
- Ask to be connected to Bryte Travel Assist on +1 416 596 0014 (Canada - reverse call charges accepted).
- Bryte Travel Assist will accept the call charges.
- You will be connected to talk to Bryte Travel Assist directly for assistance with your medical emergency. Please note that you will be charged for the call if you contact Bryte Travel Assist directly.

Non-medical claims and medical claims for out of hospital treatment
For all non-medical claims (for example, claims for baggage or cutting the insured journey short) and for medical claims for out of hospital treatment, you can contact us up to 30 days after you have returned to South Africa.
